Josef Stalin'in yakın çalışma arkadaşlarından olan Sovyet devlet adamı ve Komünist Parti görevlisi. Stalin'in ölümünden hemen sonra SBKP Genel Sekreterliği ve Başbakanlık yaptı. Bolşevik İhtilali'ni izleyen iç savaş sırasında 1919'da Kızıl Ordu'ya katıldı.
