Alman kimyager. Öğrenimini Lozan, Marburg ve Münih'te yaptı. Önce Innsbruck, sonra da Viyana üniversiteleri profesörlüğünde bulundu. 1921 yılında Münih Yüksek Teknik Okulu müdürlüğüne getirildi.
