Letonya'nın Kuzeybatısı'ında yer alan bir şehirdir. Courland tarihi bölgesinde yer alan Ventspils, ülkenin en büyük altıncı şehridir. 2006 yılı itibarıyla, şehrin nüfusu 43.806'dür. Ventspils, Venta Nehri ve Baltık Denizi kıyısına kurulmuş olup, önemli bir liman şehridir. Şehrin ismi kelime olarak Venta Nehri'ne bağlı olarak "Venta Kalesi" anlamına gelmektedir.
