Genel bilgiler
Lodz, Polonya’daki üçüncü en büyük şehirdir. Ülkenin orta kısmında yer alan şehir Lodz Voyvodalığı’nın da merkezidir. Varşova’nın 135 km güneybatısında yer alan şehrin armasında bir bot temsil edilir.
Yazılı kaynaklarda ismi ilk defa 1332 yılında geçen Lodz bir zamanlar küçük bir yerleşimdi. Sosyalizm döneminde yaşadığı uzun bir bolluk ve refah sürecinden sonra, orta ve doğu Avrupa’da komünizmin yıkılmasıyla beraber bir gerileme dönemi yaşadı.
Yine de şehir uluslararası arenada, dünya çapında ünlü Polonyalı yönetmenleri ve aktörleri yetiştirmiş olan sinema Lodz Sinema Okuluyla ünlüdür.
