Muromaçi Dönemi'nin ilk yarısında gelişen Kitayama Kültürü mimarisi ve bahçe düzenleme sanatının kusursuz bir temsilcisi olarak uluslararası kabul görmüş, bu çerçevede 1994 yılı itibarıyla eski başkent Kyôto'nun önemli kültür varlığı olarak UNESCO Dünya Mirası Listesi'ne alınmıştır.
