Endonezya'nın Sumatra Adası'nın kuzeyinde Toba Gölü'nün ortasında bulunan bir volkanik adadır. Ada, 630 km²'lik yüzölçümü ile bir ada üzerinde yer alan en büyük ada ve dünyanın beşinci en büyük göl adasıdır. Samosir, göl ile birlikte 75.000 yıl önce bir süper yanardağ patlaması sonucu oluşmuş olup 1907 yılında Tano Ponggol Kanalı tarafından navigasyona yardım etmek amacıyla kesilen küçük bir kıstak tarafından çevreleyen kaldera duvarına bağlı bir yarımadaydı.
