Porto’nun Atlas Okyanusu kıyısında yer alan bu semti plajları ile ünlüdür. Porto’nun merkezine kolay erişime sahip en büyük plaj olup, sörf yanı sıra, geniş yürüme alanları ve parkurları ile bisiklet başta olmak üzere çeşitli sporların yapılabildiği bir yerdir.
Portekiz’in kurulduğu 12. yüzyılda da Matesunis adıyla mevcut olan köye 1853 yılında Matosinhos adı verilmiş.
