Belem, Brezilya'nın kuzeyinde yer alan Para eyaletinin en büyük şehri ve başkentidir.
Sahip olduğu konumu ve gelişmişliğiyle Amazon Bölgesi’nin giriş kapısı olarak görülür. Guajará Körfezi’nde, Amazon Nehri'nin alt kollarından biri olan Guamá Nehri’nin ağzında yer alır. Pará Nehri’nin Atlas Okyanusu’na döküldüğü noktadan 130 km içeridedir.
1616 yılında, şimdilerde "Forte do Castelo" olarak anılan, eski adı “Forte do Presépio" olan kalenin Para Nehri’nde kurulmasından sonra gelişmeye başlayan Belem şehri günümüzde tarihi alanları, mimarisi, doğası ve her yıl Ekim ayında düzenlenen dünyanın en büyük Katolik festivallerinden Cirio de Nazaré’ye ev sahipliği yapmasıyla turistlerin ilgisini çekiyor.
