Fin siyasetçi ve Finlandiya'nın dokuzuncu cumhurbaşkanıdır. Koivisto ülkesinin içerisinde bulunduğu durum nedeniyle çok genç yaşlarda devlet hizmetini alınmış olup, itfaiye eri olarak görev almış ve daha sonraki Finlandiya ile Sovyetler Birliği arasında yaşanan Kış Savaşı'nda da piyade biriminde görev almıştır.
