Baphuon, 11. Yüzyıl döneminin en güzel tapınaklarından biridir ve «tapınak-dağ» olarak bilinir.
Angkor Arkeoloji Parkı'nın nefes kesici manzaralarını sunan terasa gelen ziyaretçileri dik bir merdivenle bu adı almıştır. Angor tapınakları arasında en güzel ve etkileyici olanı.
Zaman geçtikçe, tapınak birkaç aşınma ile karşılaştı ve gözyaşı ile tapınağa ciddi zararlar verdi. Ancak yine de, bugün bile Tarih sayfalarında önemli bir yer tutar.
UNESCO, bu tapınağın hem Hindu hem de Budist din için oynadığı önemli rolü göz önüne alarak, 1992 yılında Dünya Mirası Alanının tanınmasını sağlamaya karar verdi.
