Dünyanın en eski kanalizasyon sistemlerinden biridir. Antik Roma'da, yerel bir bataklığın drenajı ve döneminde dünyanın en kalabalık şehirlerinden birinin atık sularının tasfiyesi için yapılmış olup, atık suları şehrin içinden akan Tiber Nehri'ne taşırdı.
