1924 yılında Hollandalı mimar Gerrit Rietveld tarafından Truus Schröder-Schräder ve üç çocuğu için yaptırılmıştır. Ev, duvarları olmadan tasarlanmıştı. Rietveld evin inşasında Schröder-Schräder ile yan yana çalıştı.
