  • St. Bavos Cathedral in Ghent is noted for the Ghent Altarpiece, formally known as the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. The 10th century cathedral has housed the world famous altarpiece for six centuries. Built and painted by brothers Hubert and Jan an Eyck between 1422-1432, the altarpiece is considered Van Eyck’s masterpiece and one of the most important works of the early Northern Renaissance, as well as one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of Belgium.
