The construction of the Roman Catholic St. Mary's Cathedral in Linz, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral and New Cathedral, was initiated in 1855 by the Bishop of Linz Franz Joseph Rudi greed of thanks for the bull Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December 1854. 1862, the foundation stone was laid, the Cathedral by Bishop Johannes Maria Gföllner was finally consecrated as St. Mary's Church on 1 May 1924.
