The flag of Azerbaijan consists of three horizontal stripes - the top one is blue, the middle one is red, and the bottom one is green. In the middle of the red stripe, a white crescent and eight-pointed star are placed. Star, crescent, and green color are the traditional symbols of Islam. Eight peaks of the star denote eight Turkic groups inhabiting Azerbaijan and the crescent was borrowed from the Turkish flag.
