The highest peak in the High Tatras (and the Carpathian Mountains) is Gerlachovský štít at 2,655 meters. Lomnicky štít (2,633 meters), the third highest peak in the mountain range, is easily accessible by cable car. If you are really lucky, you can spot a Tatra chamois, a highly endangered animal resembling a mountain goat.
