Leonardo Da Vinci’s Masterpiece, The Mona Lisa.
The Mona Lisa is a half length portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. It is painted in oil on Lombardy poplar panel, and is thought to have been commissioned to celebrate the birth of their second son. The Mona Lisa is named after Lisa Gherardini, with Mona being an Italian abbreviation for “ma donna”, meaning “ma lady”.
