- The first plans to construct Casa Loma were in 1911 when eccentric millionaire Sir Henry Pellatt decided to act upon his dream of building a medieval castle.
- Pellatt gathered artwork from around the world to decorate Casa Loma. Large rooms accommodated the Pellatt’s busy social calendar and grand parties.
- Worth the visit if only for the fact Casa Loma is the only castle in TO and Spadina House which is right beside it is also worth the visit.

- Today, the mansion is owned by the City of Toronto and run by The Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma, which uses its share of the proceeds for charitable projects.
- Situated on 5 acres, Casa Loma was the largest private residence in Canada. Today, Casa Loma is one of Toronto’s top tourist attractions and heritage sites.
- Casa Loma’s design was inspired by European castles and chateaus, and it features Gothic Revival and Romanesque architectural elements.
- The name Casa Loma means Hill House and reflects the fact that it was built on top of the escarpment that was the shoreline of Lake Ontario after the last ice age.
- Plans to expand the castle to include two more wings with hotel rooms were scuppered when a syndicate from New York offered to buy Casa Loma.
- Inside Casa Loma on the first floor, there is also a Great Hall that is 60ft tall! Inside this spectacular hall is wooden chandeliers and sculptures.
