The work of the leading Hungarian sculptor, János Fadrusz, the monument was unveiled in 1902 and shows Matthias Corvinus on horseback. Standing 12 metres tall, it depicts Corvinus’ horse with all four hooves on the ground, and this is believed to show that the king died of natural causes and not in combat.
