The church of the Holy Mother of God of Vanadzor was founded in 1831 by Piluman Tairyan. According the khachkars, that are located in the church yard, it is supposed that there was another church here, but, unfortunately, it is not known exactly when it was built. In 1826, a great earthquake occurred in Gharakilisa, during which the ancient church was destroyed.
