Capitol Reef officially became a national park on December 18, 1971. In 2022, it received 1.2 million visitors, making it the 21st most visited US National Park this year. It is one of five national parks in Utah (collectively called Utah’s Mighty 5). Capitol Reef was the fourth most visited national park in Utah’s Mighty 5 (Zion took first place and Canyonlands took 5th place).
