Tretyakov Gallery is the art museum that was established by a merchant, manufacturer, and Moscow collector Pavel Tretyakov in 1856. He was not only a great admirer of art; Pavel Tretyakov was also a patron of the artists, and sometimes their moral inspirer.
The exposition “Russian paintings of the 11th - the beginning of the 20th century” that is kept in the main building of the gallery is also a part of the All-Russian Museum Union, founded in 1986.
