It was constructed between 1838-1840, from the contributions of Cossacks and Omsk citizens. It is also known as the Cossack Cathedral. Three years after it was completed, it was consecrated to St. Nicholas who is the patron saint of Cossacks. It received the status of cathedral in 1916.
