Near the settlement, you will encounter the remnants of the three aisle basilica of Saint Achillios. This magnificent monument was built at the end of the 10th century by Samuel, ruler of Bulgaria (997-1014), in order to house the relic of Saint Achillios, bishop of Larissa. Prespa at this time was the center of the Balkan world, when Samuel used the region as his capital.
