China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is a ministry-level institution responsible for exploring and developing onshore oil and natural gas resources. It owns more than 20 oilfields and overseas onshore oil and natural gas reserves. The company's most precious domestic assets have been bundled into PetroChina Limited Co., which began trading shares on the Hong Kong and New York stock exchanges in April 2000.
