The Rostov city museum – the Rostov Regional Museum of Local Lore traces its history to – was opened on May 1, 1910. Its foundation was possible thanks to the efforts of local lore experts, members of the City Duma and ordinary enthusiasts. Special contribution to this work was made by M.B. Krasnyanskiy, A.M. Ilyin and V.I. Asmolov, members of the “Rostov Society of History, Antiquities and Nature”.
