  • Alexander Column is a monument in the Palace Square in St. Petersburg. It was built in 1829-1834 on the initiative of Emperor Nicholas I to celebrate the victory of his brother, Emperor Alexander I and Russian troops over the Great Army of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1812. It is located in the center of square. The column is the largest structure of this type in the world. It measures 47.5 m in height.
