Macaristan'ın geleneksel yemeklerinden biridir. Genellikle dana eti, soğan, kırmızı biber ve biberden yapılır. Gulaşın kökeni, 9. yüzyılda Macar çobanların yediği bir haşlama yemeğidir. Yemeğin adı, Macarcada "sığır güden kişi, çoban" anlamına gelir.
