Sürümün ilk 4.0 versiyonu 19 Ekim 2011 yılında tanıtılmıştır. Sürüm Galaxy Nexus telefonu ile birge sunulmuştur.
Android 4.0 "Holo" kod adlı yeni bir görünümünü ve Roboto adlı yeni bir yazı tipi olan harf karakteri tanıttı.
