The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle (a.k.a. Eger Cathedral) is the seat of Catholic Archdiocese of Eger. The cathedral was built 1831 - 1837, designed by architect József Hild. The cathedral is grandly set on a small hill, facing Eszterházy Károly University. A monumental staircase is flanked with statues (Saint Peter and Saint Paul on the left and Saint Steven and Saint Ladislas on the right).
