    Cami aslen, ailesinin bazı üyeleriyle aynı yerde gömülü olan Haydar Paşa Jalabi bin Muhammed Celabi Şah Bandar tarafından yaptırılmış ve ona atfedilmiştir. Cami, daha sonra 1819-1827 yıllarında, Wazir Bağdat'ın Davud Paşa, son Wali of Memluk hanedanı Irakta.

    Haydar-Khana Camii, Türkiye'nin en güzel örneklerinden biri olarak kabul edilir. Bağdat'ta Osmanlı yapıları. Cami kare planlıdır ve üç kapısı mermerden yapılmıştır. Caminin içinde Mushollas (ibadet yeri) yaz ve kış için ve kış lapası iki küçük kubbe ve onu çevreleyen bir minare ile mavi kubbe ile örtülmüştür.
