  • The museum dates back to 1709, when by order of Peter the Great was established “model-camera” (from the Dutch model-kammer - room, pantry models), in which were stored models and drawings of warships. In 1805, a collection of models and drawings were transformed into the Maritime Museum. In 1908 the museum was named after its founder, Peter the Great. Since 1924 is used the name of the Central Naval Museum.
