  • Palliser Islands is a group of atolls within the Tuamotu Archipelago, in French Polynesia. The main islands in this group are Fakarava and Rangiroa. They have a population of some 5,000 people (2012 estimate).
The first European to sight the Palliser Islands was Captain James Cook in 1774. He named them after Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser. Administratively, the islands comprise three communes namely Arutua, Fakarava and Rangiroa.
