Porphyry (/ / POR -fə-ree) is the name given to decorative granites or igneous rocks with coarse-grained crystals such as feldspar or quartz dispersed in a fine-grained silicate -rich, generally aphanitic matrix or groundmass. The larger crystals are called phenocrysts.
