Born in Wrexham, North Wales, Shaun Delaney is part Irish, part Welsh. His parents divorced when he was 6 years old. Shaun was a promising footballer as a teenager and also played the guitar to a good standard. In his early teens, partly inspired by the "Rocky" movies and partly to look-after himself on the rough council estate he lived on in Mold, North Wales, Shaun turned to boxing and trained for 3 or 4 years with the Welsh legendary boxer, the late Gerry "Boyo" Greaves at his Mold Gym.
