  • William Castle, original name William Schloss, (born April 24, 1914, New York City, New York, U.S.—died May 31, 1977, Los Angeles, California), American director who was known for the innovative marketing techniques he used to promote his B-horror movies. He began his entertainment career as an actor in Off-Broadway productions, and he later directed a well-received stage version of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula.
