Leviathan, İngiliz filozof Thomas Hobbes’un 1651 yılında yayımlanan aynı adlı eserinde bahsettiği bir terimdir.
Leviathan, devletin gücünü ve otoritesini temsil eden bir canavar olarak tasvir edilir. Hobbes’a göre, insanlar doğal olarak savaşçıdır ve bu nedenle bir toplumda yaşamak için bir hükümetin varlığına ihtiyaçları vardır. Leviathan, bu hükümetin güçlü bir lideri ve otoritesidir.
