In 1912 former Sophia Regiment fellows raised money and established in the Royal Bastion in Smolensk a monument to their fellow soldiers-participants of the Patriotic War of 1812. Author of the project: a private soldier of the 7-th company B. N. Tsapenko. Originally, the monument was crowned with a cross, but after the restoration in 1913 the cross was replaced with a bronze eagle.
