The church was built after winning the battle with the Teutonic Knights. King Jagiełło brought the Brigidine Sisters to the temple, because it was believed then that Saint Bridget foretold the defeat of the order and a brave ruler who punished them. According to one legend, the temple was built by the Teutonic prisoners themselves.
