Stavanger, Norveç’in 4. büyük şehridir.
Nüfusu 117.157’dir (1 Mart 2007 itibariyle). Norveçin petrol merkezi olarak bilinir. Sahip olduğu liman bölgedeki en önemli limanlardandır.
Limanın yakınında tarihi bir konserveleme müzesi bulunmaktadır. Bu müze, eskiden dünyanın her köşesine sardalya konservesi üreten bir fabrika olmasından dolayı önem taşır.
Ayrıca Stavanger’de NATO’ya ait bir Müşterek Harp Merkezi bulunmaktadır.
