VK 36.01 (H), VK 30.01 H orta tank projesinin geliştirilmesi ile ortaya çıkmıştı. Sadece 8 şase ve 1 tank üretildi, şaseler ve tank Henschel tarafından yapıldı.
VK 36.01'in gelişimi, 2. Dünya Savaşında önemli bir rol oynayacak olan Tiger 1 tankının üretilmesine yol açtı. Daha sonra proje 1942'de VK 45.01 için durduruldu.
