W. Somerset Maugham (born Jan. 25, 1874, Paris, France—died Dec. 16, 1965, Nice) was an English novelist, playwright, and short-story writer whose work is characterized by a clear unadorned style, cosmopolitan settings, and a shrewd understanding of human nature. Maugham was orphaned at the age of 10; he was brought up by an uncle and educated at King’s School, Canterbury.

William Somerset Maugham (25 Ocak 1874 — 16 Aralık 1965) İngiliz oyun, hikâye ve roman yazarı.
Çağdaşlarının modernist akımın etkisinde yazdığı bir dönemde daha sade bir tarz seçti. Yazdığı oyunların sıkça sahnelenmesi sayesinde popüler bir yazar haline geldi. Birçok eseri film olarak da uyarlandı.
1947'de Maugham Somerset Maugham ödülü'nü başlattı. Bu ödül yaşı otuz beşin altında olan ve bir önceki yıl bir edebiyat eseri yayınlayan en iyi İngiliz yazarına veriliyordu.
Ölümünden sonra yazar teliflerini Kraliyet Edebiyat Fonuna bağışladı.
