• George II George II © George was elector of Hanover and second Hanoverian king of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • King George II and his wife Caroline went to live in Great Britain, leaving behind a seven-year-old Frederick in the care of his great-uncle Ernest Augustus.
  • In 1737 relations between George II and his son Frederick, Prince of Wales, became so bad that the latter and his family were banished from the Royal Court.
  • As England was drawn into the War of Austrian Succession, George II rose to the occasion and became a war hero at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743.
  • Nevertheless, the news of George I's death was indeed true, and George Augustus, Prince of Wales succeeded to the throne as George II.
  • During his reign the British army won important military victories at Plassey (1757) and Quebec (1759). George II died in 1760.
