The State Museum at Majdanek was established in the autumn of 1944 on part of the grounds of the former KL Lublin concentration camp, thus it was the first institution of this type in the world. After the creation of the museum at the camp in 1969, a monumental Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom was created at Majdanek.
