- Worth visiting in its own right, and linked to two of Birmingham’s most famous residents too – that’s Sarehole Mill.
- Sarehole Mill was first built as a corn grinding mill but has only been used for rolling sheet metal, grinding blades and wire rolling.
- Sarehole Mill is a 250 year old working watermill.There has been a mill on the site since 1542, and the current building dates from the mid-18th Century.
- In the 1850s a steam engine was installed and a chimney built, which provides Sarehole Mill with its distinctive silhouette.
- The Sarehole Mill is most famous for its association with author J.R.R Tolkien, who lived very close to the mill and used it for inspiration.
- Sarehole Mill was the inspiration for the village and mill in The Hobbit, since JRR Tolkien used to live in the area and spent much of his childhood by the mill.

- Sarehole Mill is a Grade II listed water mill (in an area once called Sarehole) on the River Cole in Hall Green, Birmingham.
- Sadly the waterwheel at Sarehole Mill is currently out of action and we are unable to operate the machinery due to flood damage at the site last the year.
