The Ascension Cathedral of Almaty, also known as Zenkov Cathedral, is one of the biggest Orthodox cathedrals in Kazakhstan. It is located in the famous Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. The cathedral was opened in 1907, and since then the building has been through a lot. First, earthquakes, and then the formation of the USSR, when religions became forbidden and religious institutions were closed or destroyed.
