The Museum of the History of Belarusian Cinema was opened in Minsk in 1976. Its opening was timed by Belarusian filmmakers to the 50th anniversary of the release of the first National Film "Lesnaya Byl". Until 2002, the museum had more of an archival function, being a departmental museum of the Belarusfilm film studio.
