  • Washington Airport (IAD), or Dulles International Airport, is the largest airport near Washington D.C. It was named after the former U.S. politician John Foster Dulles, who was secretary of state of the United States in the 1950s. Dulles Airport, which opened in 1962, is no longer located on the territory of the capital Washington D.C., but 40 kilometers to the west, on the territory of the state of Virginia.
