Popular research university The University of Southampton is situated in Southampton, Hampshire, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1862 as Hartley Institution, and in 1952 it was granted university status. With the exception of 2018, when it was ranked at position 102, it has consistently been among the top 100 universities in the world according to the QS World University Ranking.
