The museum itself – designed by architect Yoshio Taniguchi – has undergone several expansion projects in the past few decades and now spans a total of 4,500 square metres, making it one of Japan’s largest art museums. Exhibits here are from the early 20th century onwards, with the museum’s extensive collection of roughly 13,000 pieces featuring both Japanese and Western-style artworks.
